Fat Boy Slim - Weapon Of Choice

There is a narrative to this video as Christopher Walken, the businessman sits in a hotel lobby with his baggage next to him, saddened in his chair. A vacuum cleaner hums in the background. The man becomes aware of music coming from a radio, which is placed on a cleaning trolley. He nods discreetly in time with the music, then stands moving to the side slightly. Suddenly and unexpectedly, he starts to dance. He dances energetically up and down the escalator, races down and also does a cartwheel with no hands. He then leaps onto the table kicking the brochures and smiling with enjoyment. He dances down a corridor and he gets into the lift and runs over a railing and flies around the hall, but he stops for a moment in front of a large painting of a boat at sea with a look of pride on his face. Then he comes back down to earth and after standing and considering his wild moment of freedom. He then returns to his chair. The story line behind this video is that the main character Christopher Walken is depressed and lonely and all of a sudden he jumps up and starts doing a weird dance. Christopher Walken is out of character in this video as his personality is usually very strong and serious. He is an American stage actor, director and script writer. His usual roles are within Shakespeare and he has played many main roles in films as such. This video is in the top forty famous people videos till this day. This video is a dance and performance video, there are not many lyrics sang in it. The overall look and feel of this video, personally is pointless to me however, if i had a background on the characters work I may have been more interested as it is not something he would not usually do. The emotions felt throughout this video were laughter and confusion and boredom as at the start when he starts to dance it is funny however the viewer is confused on why he is acting in such a way and as the video goes on it gets boring. Personally I was not able to connect to this video as it did not entertain me.

Mise En Scene is what the camera sees within the frame or the scene. Christopher Walken's clothes and make up is simple as he has not got make up on however; at the start of the video he is depressed. He is wearing typical businesses ware clothes; in a suit and with a briefcase. The videos location is set all around an expensive hotel. Through this video we are able to see the hotel’s lobby, escalators and also the lifts. The props used in this video are a chair at the start where the character is sitting. but as he starts to dance there are tables, lifts, escalators, mirrors which are seen in the video. The lighting is dark in this video as the mood is dark and gloomy at the start however, as the character starts to dance the video lights up and the lighting becomes bright. The actor movements & expressions are Christopher Walken's expressions start of by being depressed, tired and sad however as he hears the music and it is like he has a reason to be happy and immediately gets up and starts to dance freely. When dancing he looks happy and proud of himself.

The camera shots used in this video are very wide shots when the man is sitting in the chair at the start of the music video; then wide shots are used when the whole video is focusing on the man when he was moving around and dancing; mid shots are used when the camera is closer to the man whilst he is running around the hotel, this shows him in better detail, this shot is also used at the start of the video when the camera focuses on the trolley; the video also uses a low angle shot when the character is flying in the room so that you can see him in a different angle. The types of movement used in the video are pan which is when the camera moves horizontally to capture the characters movement; the camera also follows the man when he is on the escalators and moving up; as well as this zoom is used to show the camera moving away and also towards the scene. The historic, social & cultural context is the purpose of this video is entertainment. There is no meaning behind it other than entertainment for the viewers. It could be used as a commercial.  Sources state when the video first came out people would stop and stare in shops to watch this as it was such a shock Christopher Walken would do such a thing. It is pure entertainment.
