Rihanna - We Found Love

We had a class discussion on Rihanna's music video. Her video was pop based and was based on her relationship with Chris Brown. The story behind the music video is about her and her boyfriend's love story. Our class came up thought the story behind was Rihanna and Clavin Harris were madly in love, they both toke drugs. At the start of their relationship this alcohol and drug use was bearable however, as the relationship went on Rihanna could not take it anymore and therefore she walked out. however, at the start of the video she states she wants the bad things back as the good things come with the bad. We came to a conclusion that her video was edited quite a bit.  The story was not continuity as at the start of the video Rihanna and Clavin were in the bath and then in the middle of the video they were in bath again and also in the cafe Rihanna is on the table in one shot and in the other she's on the other side on a different table, we did not see this through the camera lense. The shots or images are only up for 2 seconds and then the new shot is switched, they have done this to keep the viewers interested.

Pre Production - Treatment Aspect For Our Music Video

The type of music video that we are going to plan and make is going to be a narrative based music video, but the stories within the song will not flow. As the songs/protagonists change, the stories will change too. In some parts of the music video, the type will be more performance based as some parts don't have a story to explain. The overall look and feel for our music video will be quite sad and depressed, as the songs that will be included are slow melodies, which talk about heart-ache. so our song will be placed in dark/cold weather, with bland clothing, e.g. white clothes, and it will contain slow and belittling frames and angles.

Eminem - Loose Yourself

Narrative
This video is a narrative video. The original copy's narrative is Eminem is rapping about his past troubles to do with when he first got in to rapping. He explains what happened to him when he went to his first spitting match. Eminem than advises people to never let go as you only get one shot. He than explains the bigging is not the hardest it gets harder. The hidden message behind this video is that Eminem went through a lot of struggle to get where he is today. He explains he did this so he could provide a better life for his family. Eminem also quotes failure is not a option. The video reprsents hiphop as the charcters are wearing clothes which fit into the hiphop mode. The rapping, using there hands and the areas which the video was taken gives it a hip hop feeling.

Mise En Scene
Mise En Scene is what the camera sees within the frame or the scene. In this video at the start we see to characters. Than they split and at one point we see one character. The characters are miming to Eminem's lyrics. They are both dressed in hoods, jeans and tracksuit bottoms as Eminem dresses like that. The locations set in this video are Coventry city center, the gardens, swan-swell park and pool meadow alleys. The emotions on the characters faces are negative and dull, the video is not happy.

Notes - Monday 13th October 2011

In todays lesson our group decided to make our mood board. We choose to make it on prezi instead of photoshop. In the mood board I split it into four different areas, each named after a person in our group. The photos on the prezi are off the locations of where we are going to film. My prezi background is black to show our colour theme; dull, dark and gloomy.

Notes - Monday 10th October 2011

In todays lesson we took more pictures for our mood board. We took pictures of different angles for example over the should shot for each person in our video. We than took pictures of one of the scene we will shoot, which is us walking down the stairs. We than came back to lesson and looked at the photos and decided which ones will be on our mood board. We than went and did seperate work. I created blogs of each scene ready for our mood board.

Moodboard Planning - I Need A Doctor

In Samsia's scene the location will be taken in a dark room, she has not decided where yet but it will be somewhere in school. She will use glow in the dark stickers or the white board so that words that link to her part of the video stand out.

Moodboard Planning - Airplanes

The airplanes shot will be taken on the canal basin as in the night you can see the stars. The shots will be from a height and also the city center in to show the life of the characters.

Moodboard Planning - Impossible

In Ayesha's scene, the location will be on Sidney Stringer Academy's rooftop. We need the rooftop in this part of the scene as one of the lyrics quotes "shout it from the rooftop".

Moodboard Planning - Written In The Stars

In Shalini's scene the location will be set in the city, with stars and at a high height. These pictures we took represent each of the aspect were looking for.

Moodboard Planning - Dead And Gone & Im Coming Home Scene

These pictures represent our last shot and what we will be doing in the shot. We will each walk down a set of stairs to show it is the end of the road we have traveled. We have taken the over the shoulder shot and long shots for each person to show how it will feel walking in the characters shoes. We will be recording side to side also; the pan shot.

Notes - Thursday 6th October 2011

In todays lesson we worked as a group. In our group we all wrote down the risks linked to our location where we are going to film the scene. We also rote about the Mise En Scence about our part of the video. We than took pictures of the places we could film the music video for example Sidney Stringer Acadamey's roof. We also took images of heights to reperesent our film is going to b based on hieghts. We fianlly took pictures of long, medium, birds eye view, over the shoulder, close up and extereme close up shots.

Pre Production Notes - Risk Assessment For Music Video

Samsia Akhter - I Need A Doctor
The risks that could occur will be that I can hurt myself while confined in a trapped area, there could be issues of suffication and breathing too.

Mizbah Iqbal - Airplanes
The risks which I may face when filming and acting my scene could be the height of the bridge and filming the video and also having the bridge to my self.

Ayesha Shaikh - Impossible
The risks that I could face are the height from rooftop i need to be careful also the surface on the hills if i use that location. I will make sure that i am safe by making sure i am watching how im walking and the props and camera equipment do not get in the way of my performance.

Shalini Yogamoorthy - Written In The Stars

The risks which I may face when filming and acting my scene could be, the heights on the field and also some of the pathways are not safe, the ones through the canal. I will prevent this by using the main pathway instead of alley ways. The height issue will be overcome as the person recording will be at a lower height so none of the equipment is damaged.

Everyone - I’m Coming Home & Dead & Gone
The risks which we all may face could trip and fall of the bridge, and some of the people in the group may be scared of heights. Another problem we could face is having the bridge to our selves to film our scene.

Pre Production Notes - Mise En Scene For Music Video

The lyrics which I will be performing to are "can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, and wish right now. Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, and wish right now".  Mise En Scene is what the camera sees within the frame or the scene. The clothes which I will be wearing for this scene shot will be dark, nothing bright as the mood is glum and regretful. The facial expressions which will be captured in this video will be regrets, sadness and also hope. The actor movements and expressions will be slow as the lyrics show the person is regretting and hoping to make everything right once again. The location where I will be shooting my video will be on Blue Ribbon fields and the canal. The fields are abandoned and there at hills, I could picture the stars at night too. The will be no props used in my scene. The lighting will be dark in my part of the video as the mood is dark and gloomy and it will have to be dark for the stars to shine.  The camera shots that will be used in my part of the video will be long shot, medium and close up and extreme close up, depending on the lyric at the time for example when the lyric will quote "I could really use a wish right now" the camera shot that will be used will be extreme close up to see the emotions.

Notes - Monday 3rd October 2011

In today's lesson we all decided what song we are going to make a music video on and the part of the song we want to act out. Look at blog below to see who's doing what. After this we had a meeting with Mr Ayres and the rest of the group to discuss this and whether he was happy with it. which he was. In the meeting we had to explain the song choice and what each person was going to act out and where we were thinking about doing it. We than got sent away to finalise where we will be shooting each part of the video and what we think we will be doing in our performance.

Pre Production Notes - Music Videos

On Monday 3rd of October we decided we were going to defiantly make a music video on the Megan Nicole medley mash up song. Our group is made up of four people so we each picked a role. Below is a list of the each person’s part in the video.

Scene 1 - Samsia Akhter - I Need A Doctor

Let the rain wash away all the pain of yesterday. I know my kingdom awaits and they've forgiven my mistakes. I'm coming home I’m coming home Tell the world that I'm coming.

Notes - Thursday 29th Septemeber 2011

Today at the start of the lesson we saw three different types of music videos which included a narrative, performance and concept video. We then lip synced a song from Glee which was called don't stop believing. After lip syncing we had to sing along to the song to build our confidence and be able to perform in front of audience. We were then told to go and find our personal three choices of songs which was a narrative, performance and concept video. After we had found them we were asked to create a blogger on them explaining, the camera shots, the location, the story behind the video. After break we were put back in our music video groups. We had to find a song which has not got a music video to it. So we searched on YouTube and found the song attached to this blog. The singer who sings aeroplanes has mashed up a few famous songs and made it original. The song was perfect as everyone in our group's favourite genre is in it. To end the lesson we were told to make a blogger on what we have learnt and done today.

Concept Video - Cadburys - Gorilla Advert 2007

Concept video typically has a theme and are produced similar to a movie or television program.  Once the theme is determined, a script is usually written and can be either serious, humorous, or both.  These videos can be produced different ways including, documentary style, a parody or just about any format you desire. The concept video I have chosen is the Cadburys gorilla advert August 31st 2007. This video is a concept video as chocolate has nothing to do with gorillas and the gorilla is taking a human role in this video as it is playing the drums like a human would. The location set in this video is in a purple room with drums and at the end we are shown a chocolate bar with a purple background. The camera shots used in this video are extreme close up when the gorilla is first shown to show is facial expressions and then medium shots are taken when the gorilla is playing on the drums.

Narrative Video - Eminem - Cleaning Out My Closet

Cleaning out my closet's video is narrative based as it has a story behind it. Most of Eminem's videos are narrative as they are short filmed videos. In the cleaning out my closet video Eminem is going back to his childhood and sharing his bad experiences to do with family and life with us. He shares how his father left him and how much he hates him. Eminem also shares his emotions toward his mum and how she’s hurt him; as his mother tried to sue him for no reason. He brings his own daughter into it and states how he would never leave her in any circumstance and he will always be by her side then touches his left arm where his daughter Hailey is tattooed. The video also films Eminem in the present digging up his mum’s grave. Eminem is also at a church this shows eh wants his mother dead and buried. The video is shot in a church, grave yard and also Eminem’s old house. There are a variety of camera shots used in this video for example when he is digging up his mother’s grave it is a long shot and you can see all the pain eh is going through to dig his mums grave. When he is talking about his father leaving it is a close up and you can see the anger in his face. When Eminem talks about his own daughter a medium shot is used so you can see the tattoo and Eminem’s face and the proud look in his eyes.

Performance Video - N Dubz - Strong Again

N Dubz video is a performance based video as Tulisa, Fazer and Dappy are on stage dancing and singing. There is no story behind this video apart from the lyrics and the meaning to them. The lyrics in the N Dubz video are happy. The band is happy with where they have reached in life and therefore they are sharing this with the crowd. They also state how when they were youths they did not want to live and their background did not help them through their lyrics. The lyrics are very powerful in this video as there is no film to it so therefore the lyrics are responsible for the audience to understand. They also state how they got where they are today all by their self and they are loving it. The video is set in a club and the crowd is around them shouting and cheering. Different camera shots are used in this video for example at the start of the video there are long shot maybe to show what the three singers are wearing. Next, in the video they use a medium shot to show the three singers perform and the crowd going mental. Each singer has a close up shot when they are singing or rapping. Bird eye view shots are used in the video to show the emotion in the surrounding and everyone enjoying themselves.

Fat Boy Slim - Weapon Of Choice

There is a narrative to this video as Christopher Walken, the businessman sits in a hotel lobby with his baggage next to him, saddened in his chair. A vacuum cleaner hums in the background. The man becomes aware of music coming from a radio, which is placed on a cleaning trolley. He nods discreetly in time with the music, then stands moving to the side slightly. Suddenly and unexpectedly, he starts to dance. He dances energetically up and down the escalator, races down and also does a cartwheel with no hands. He then leaps onto the table kicking the brochures and smiling with enjoyment. He dances down a corridor and he gets into the lift and runs over a railing and flies around the hall, but he stops for a moment in front of a large painting of a boat at sea with a look of pride on his face. Then he comes back down to earth and after standing and considering his wild moment of freedom. He then returns to his chair. The story line behind this video is that the main character Christopher Walken is depressed and lonely and all of a sudden he jumps up and starts doing a weird dance. Christopher Walken is out of character in this video as his personality is usually very strong and serious. He is an American stage actor, director and script writer. His usual roles are within Shakespeare and he has played many main roles in films as such. This video is in the top forty famous people videos till this day. This video is a dance and performance video, there are not many lyrics sang in it. The overall look and feel of this video, personally is pointless to me however, if i had a background on the characters work I may have been more interested as it is not something he would not usually do. The emotions felt throughout this video were laughter and confusion and boredom as at the start when he starts to dance it is funny however the viewer is confused on why he is acting in such a way and as the video goes on it gets boring. Personally I was not able to connect to this video as it did not entertain me.

Mise En Scene is what the camera sees within the frame or the scene. Christopher Walken's clothes and make up is simple as he has not got make up on however; at the start of the video he is depressed. He is wearing typical businesses ware clothes; in a suit and with a briefcase. The videos location is set all around an expensive hotel. Through this video we are able to see the hotel’s lobby, escalators and also the lifts. The props used in this video are a chair at the start where the character is sitting. but as he starts to dance there are tables, lifts, escalators, mirrors which are seen in the video. The lighting is dark in this video as the mood is dark and gloomy at the start however, as the character starts to dance the video lights up and the lighting becomes bright. The actor movements & expressions are Christopher Walken's expressions start of by being depressed, tired and sad however as he hears the music and it is like he has a reason to be happy and immediately gets up and starts to dance freely. When dancing he looks happy and proud of himself.

The camera shots used in this video are very wide shots when the man is sitting in the chair at the start of the music video; then wide shots are used when the whole video is focusing on the man when he was moving around and dancing; mid shots are used when the camera is closer to the man whilst he is running around the hotel, this shows him in better detail, this shot is also used at the start of the video when the camera focuses on the trolley; the video also uses a low angle shot when the character is flying in the room so that you can see him in a different angle. The types of movement used in the video are pan which is when the camera moves horizontally to capture the characters movement; the camera also follows the man when he is on the escalators and moving up; as well as this zoom is used to show the camera moving away and also towards the scene. The historic, social & cultural context is the purpose of this video is entertainment. There is no meaning behind it other than entertainment for the viewers. It could be used as a commercial.  Sources state when the video first came out people would stop and stare in shops to watch this as it was such a shock Christopher Walken would do such a thing. It is pure entertainment.

Florence & The Machine - Rabbit Heart

Mise En Scene is what the camera sees within the frame or the scene. The clothes and make up worn in Florence's rabbit heart video are simple and elegant. In the video Florence's make up is natural and her outfit carries on this look as it is a long white frilly dress representing the pure, virgin Mary look. The other characters in the video are wearing suits and posh hats; they all look very smart and formal. The location in Florence's video is set in the middle of the fields which are locked off and deserted. There are a lot of trees and wild life. There is also a lake within the surrounding which links into the natural theme. The theme Alice in wonderland is also carried on. The props used in the location are there is a dining table and fields. On top of the table there is a lot of food from the high life for example grapes which symbolises wine. This table of food is representing the last supper. There is high key lighting in the video and it is very bright. There is not much contrast in the lighting as it is a happy, jolly scene so therefore it is not needed. The actor movements & expressions in this video the singer Florence is doing as she wishes, she is dancing without a care in the world and it’s the last supper before she goes into the lake to purify. She is expressing her feelings by dancing freely; there is no fixed routine as she is doing as she pleases. Florence’s expressions show she is ready to do what she wants.
